They are 45 in number and are everyday heroes in eight elementary schools in Sundsvall and Östersund. The homework helpers support high school students who need extra targeted study support and inspiration to be able to apply to upper secondary school.

At the end of May, 12 primary school students and their homework helpers visited Campus Sundsvall.

Several of our students get involved as homework helpers in primary schools, an effort that makes a real difference. By supporting students in different subjects, the students not only contribute with knowledge, but also with motivation, inspiration and faith in the future. They become important role models, especially for students who may not always see higher education as an obvious path.

Our students, who are the homework helpers at Bergsåker school, took their own initiative for an inspiring study visit for 12 students in grades 7–9. After school, the students got a guided tour, get to know the environment and try out a creative activity in our Makerspace that was appreciated and that aroused both curiosity and thoughts about the future.

–It was inspiring to see how curious the students were during the visit. They asked questions about almost every building we passed, what programs are read there and where our homework helpers usually have their lectures. It was noticeable that they were really trying to imagine themselves as future students. I hope that the visit aroused a curiosity that can lead to my own dreams for the future, says Omar Mohammad, coordinator in Sundsvall at the Läxhjälpen Foundation.

Läxhjälpen is run by the Läxhjälpen Foundation, a non-profit, politically and religiously independent organization that works to ensure that more students complete compulsory school and gain eligibility for upper secondary school.

Today, homework help is available at a total of eight schools in Sundsvall: Bergsåkers skola, Hagaskolan, Höglundaskolan, Nivrenaskolan, S:t Olofsskolan, Vibackeskolan, as well as at two schools in Östersund,  Parkskolan and Torvallaskolan.

–It is an exciting and important collaboration we have initiated with Mid Sweden University, where the majority of our homework helpers are currently studying, and it is important to show the students what opportunities there are, both in terms of studies and future professions, says Isatou Keitta, Regional Manager North at the Läxhjälpen Foundation.

The collaboration that takes place within the Children's University will continue during the academic year 2025/26, where new visits will be booked both to both campuses.
