New sabbatical and visiting professor call
Within the framework of Mid Sweden University’s internationalisation initiative (ref. no. MIUN 2024/1001), internal funding for visiting professors and for stays abroad, so-called sabbaticals, was announced earlier this year. The 2024 call is closed, but the 2025 call is hereby announced!
This is a four-year initiative, 2025 – 2028, and there will also be calls during the coming years. Is the 2025 call round, there is more money to distribute, so it will be possible to approve more applications than in the last call.
The deadline is set to April 11 (2025), so there is plenty of time to write the application. Compared to the last call, there are not many changes in this call. However, after the last call round was finished, we received criticism on one point, and we have listened to the criticism and have accordingly made one important change: In the previous call, we wrote that applicants who had not previously received internal funds for a sabbatical would be given priority. In this call, we write that it is junior researchers and also applicants who have not previously received internal funds for a sabbatical that will be given priority. This of course begs the question ‘who is a junior researcher?’. See the call page (link below), and do note that we in the QnA-section there define who is a junior researcher for the purpose of the sabbatical call, but not for the visiting professor call. It will instead have to be decided on a case-by-case basis who is a junior employee that can be mentee for a visiting professor.
To enable existing research cooperations
500,000 SEK will be granted per sabbatical, and the purpose is to enable new or to strengthen already existing international research cooperations. Employees that have a doctoral degree and a permanent position at MIUN are eligible to apply for a sabbatical.
For the recruitment of a visiting professor, who must be offered an employment of least the equivalent of 10% of a full-time position, 500,000 SEK is set aside. And an additional 100,000 SEK is set aside for the financing of employees' stays at the visiting professor's home university or equivalent. Here research environments and individual researchers are allowed to send in applications, with the approval of the prefect.
In this second call, funding for 2025-2027 will be decided. A decision on the allocation of funds will be made by the pro vice-chancellor in May 2025 on the basis of a proposal from an assessment group consisting of the pro vice-chancellor, representatives of the two faculties and the student unions. Use of funds can start right away, and funds will be available until the end of 2026 (for sabbaticals) and until the end of June 2027 (for visiting professors).
