Tove Stenman

Doktorand|Doctoral Student

Background

I am a Registered Nurse and Midwife with a master’s degree in Health Care Science, specializing in palliative care.
I have extensive clinical experience in both the beginning and the end-of-life care contexts.

Area of interest

My doctoral research focuses on how everyday small talk can evolve into meaningful and confidential conversations between nurses and patients with palliative care needs.

Research

This research highlights how conversations can enhance the quality of care for patients and help alleviate suffering. However, nurses require adequate support and resources to engage in these spontaneous conversations effectively. By emphasizing small talk as a tool for fostering deeper, more personal dialogue, the research contributes to a more holistic and patient-centered approach to care, addressing both emotional and existential needs.

Teaching and tutoring

I teach palliative care and end-of-life care at the undergraduate level within the nursing program, as well as at the advanced level through standalone courses.
