Aim
The course aims to develop students’ advanced understanding of adult learning in informal and formal contexts. It also aims to enhance students’ ability to independently manage the complexity involved in adult learning across different contexts, in development work and in research.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the field of education, including broad and significantly deepened knowledge of adult learning in formal and informal contexts.
-Critically and systematically integrate knowledge and analyze, assess, and manage complex phenomena, issues, and situations even with limited information.
- Independently and creatively identify and formulate questions, plan and carry out qualified tasks using appropriate methods within given time frames, and contribute to knowledge development and evaluate this work.
- Clearly present and discuss conclusions and the knowledge and arguments behind them, both orally and in writing, in dialogue with others.
- Demonstrate the skills required to participate in research and development work or to work independently in other qualified professional activities.
-Show insight into the possibilities and limitations of science, its role in society, and people's responsibility for how it is used.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify their need for further knowledge and take responsibility for their own learning.
Content
The course covers educational research and theories on adult learning in informal and formal contexts. Students will write a scholarly text discussing and problematizing key scientific concepts in relation to empirical material concerning adult learning in various settings.
Entry requirements
A completed degree of at least 180 credits, including a 15-credit independent project (thesis) in education or a corresponding field, or a completed teacher education degree of at least 180 credits with a 15-credit thesis. Proficiency in Swedish and English equivalent to the general entry requirements for higher education in Sweden is also required.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
Teaching is primarily conducted online with a number of mandatory meetings.
Examination form
3001: Individual written and oral examination, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Three-grade scale
The examination consists of individual writing of a text and to oral present the same.
