Aim
The course aims to deepen the student's understanding of leadership and the development of educational practices. The course also aims to enhance the student's ability to critically, independently, and creatively identify and formulate questions, as well as to plan, carry out, and evaluate qualified tasks, by integrating leadership and development in relation to educational settings.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding within the main field of education (pedagogy), with substantially advanced knowledge of leadership and the development of educational practices,
- demonstrate the ability to critically and systematically integrate knowledge and to analyze, assess, and manage complex phenomena, issues, and situations, even with limited information,
- demonstrate the ability to critically, independently, and creatively identify and formulate questions, to plan and carry out tasks using an appropriate method, thereby contributing to knowledge development, and to evaluate this work,
- demonstrate the ability to clearly present and discuss, both orally and in writing, their conclusions within the area of leadership and the development of educational practices, as well as the knowledge and arguments on which these are based, in dialogue with others.
Content
The course addresses leadership in relation to organizational development. Particular focus is placed on the conditions and prerequisites for leadership and development within educational settings. The course covers both theories and research on leadership in relation to organizational development.
Entry requirements
A completed degree of at least 180 credits, including an independent project (degree project) of 15 credits, in the main field of education (pedagogy) or an equivalent main field, or a completed teacher education degree of at least 180 credits with an independent project (degree project) of 15 credits. In addition, proficiency in Swedish and English is required, corresponding to the general entry requirements for first-cycle higher education in Sweden.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
Teaching is conducted in the form of independent study, lectures with follow-up discussions, mandatory literature seminars, and supervision. Before each literature seminar, students are required to prepare by reading the assigned literature and, in the specified manner, processing and individually reflecting on it.

3001: Leadership and Development of Educational Practices II, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Three-grade scale
Oral and Written Presentation
The student is assessed in both written and oral forms through examination components that build upon one another.
• Mandatory literature seminars (Fail/Pass)
• Individual paper (Fail/Pass/Pass with Distinction)
• Seminar discussion of the individual paper; defence of own paper and opposition on a fellow student’s paper (Fail/Pass/Pass with Distinction)
For the grade Pass on the whole course, the student must receive at least Pass on all examination components. For Pass with Distinction, the student must additionally achieve Pass with Distinction on both the individual paper and the seminar discussion.

If a student has a certificate from the coordinator at Mid Sweden University regarding educational support due to a disability, the examiner has the right to provide an adapted form of examination.
