Aim

The aim of the course is to provide participants with knowledge of project work, project organization, project management, and project control. It also aims to develop an understanding and deeper knowledge of what a project is, how project objectives can be formulated, and how the project team, project quality, and project finances can be managed. Time is often the governing variable in the management and follow-up of projects, and the course focuses on planning, monitoring, and evaluating project objectives.

Course objectives

Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • apply the role of project manager in practice,
  • plan, implement, and evaluate projects with a particular focus on product development,
  • organize and lead meetings and conduct minor negotiations,
  • produce and deliver concise, high-quality presentations, both orally and in writing,
  • describe how projects are initiated, structured, and executed in accordance with established project management models,
  • analyze and discuss the creative process and identify challenges that may arise within project groups,
  • analyze and describe relevant technical tools used in project management.

Entry requirements

120 credits (ECTS) of completed courses within a Master of Science in Engineering programme at Mid Sweden University.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The teaching consists of lectures, seminars, and exercises both individually and in groups.

In addition, the course includes project work with the opportunity to act as a project manager in a project involving, among others, participants (students) from the first year of the Master of Science in Engineering programmes.

Examination form

2001: Project assignment, group work, 2 Credits
Grade scale: Two-grade scale
Students work in designated cross-disciplinary groups and act as project leaders for Year 1 students in a product development course. There is also a requirement for students to actively participate in several designated moments during the course in order to be approved.

2002: Written report from project, 1 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A-F o Fx
Individual reflection on the project.

2003: Exam, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A-F o Fx

2004: Written assignment and presentation, 1.5 Credits
