Aim
The course aims for students to acquire knowledge of key concepts and models, as well as theoretical and practical insights into applying theories related to user-driven value creation, innovation, business models, and business model innovation.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- define, describe, and explain the central concepts of user-driven value creation, innovation, and business models, and distinguish their implications.
- apply user-driven theories to practical problems that companies typically face.
- describe, relate, and integrate user-driven assumptions.
- describe, explain, and distinguish how scientific knowledge is created by designing and conducting a delimited academic study within the field of innovation and business model development.
Content
The course includes presentations, analysis, and discussions of user-driven value creation and innovation, how such processes function, and the factors that influence them. It also addresses theories of business models and business model innovation in terms of their conditions and key factors, as well as theories on how innovation and business model innovation can be facilitated, applied, and implemented. The course also includes elements involving industry practice.
Entry requirements
Business Administration at the undergraduate level (A/B), at least 60 ECTS credits, of which 30 ECTS credits are completed at level A and 30 ECTS credits at level B, including the course Business Administration (A) Marketing, 7.5 ECTS credits, or equivalent.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
Campus course:
Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, assigned materials, various forms of exercises, and elements involving industry practice. Attendance at seminars and industry-related activities is mandatory (in case of absence, supplementary assignments are required). Access to a computer with an internet connection is necessary to complete course assignments. The language of instruction may be Swedish or English.
Distance course:
Teaching consists of online lectures, seminars, assigned materials, industry-related elements, and communication via a web-based learning platform (in case of absence from seminars and industry-related activities, supplementary assignments are required). Any on-campus meetings are not mandatory, except in cases where a written individual on-site exam is included. Access to a computer with an internet connection is necessary to complete course assignments. The language of instruction may be Swedish or English.
Student responsibility:
Students are responsible for their own learning and are expected to independently seek information and take responsibility for both individual and group work.
Limitation of instruction:
Teacher-led instruction and support from the course coordinator are provided only during the specific course instance in which the student is enrolled.

The course is graded with one of the following marks: A, B, C, D, E, Fx, or F. Grades A–E indicate a pass, while Fx and F indicate a fail.
Campus and Distance courses:
During assessment, the examiner may require a supplementary oral presentation for the student to demonstrate the required knowledge. This is to ensure that the student is the actual author of the submitted written work.
If a student has a decision from the coordinator at Mid Sweden University regarding pedagogical support due to a disability, the examiner has the right to provide adapted forms of assessment.
