Locking system – keys
Mid Sweden University's lock system is based on the principle of ONE key for all campuses and includes, among other things, the ability to quickly block a lost/lost key.
The aim is for the university to have a key system that can effectively respond to changes in operations and that provides good security.
The lock system is electromechanical, which means that we can administer and control it electronically. The lock cylinder and key contain electronics that allow these two devices to communicate with each other, thus creating an additional level of security in addition to the already mechanical part.
To ensure that security and availability are always at a high quality level, the key is upgraded every fortnight. This takes place at the upgrade stations that are set up in the entrances to most of our buildings.
The system gets its power from a battery that is in the key. It is estimated that a battery can last for two years before it needs to be replaced. Battery replacement can be done by you, but if you want help, contact the caretaker's office or service center, the key is just like a modern car key, sensitive to strong shocks and to ending up in water.
