Mid Sweden University researchers at international workshop on metamaterials
In April, a group of mathematicians from Mid Sweden University participated in the "Workshop on the Mathematics of Metamaterials with Extra Dimensions" at Imperial College London.
The workshop brought together researchers from all over the world to discuss advanced mathematical modelling of materials with complex, often quasiperiodic microstructures.
The workshop is part of a recurring international series arranged by Luleå University of Technology, University of Utah, CNRS, FOI and Imperial College London. Mid Sweden University has been represented on every occasion so far, and plans to host the workshop in 2027.
"This type of workshop provides valuable opportunities for networking and exchange of ideas. The lectures and conversations can lead to future collaborations, said Lotta Flodén, associate professor of mathematics.
Visiting Professor Niklas Wellander added:
"Meeting physically is the most effective way to find new partners and develop research ideas. In the end, it's about making contacts with people you enjoy working with.
Doctoral student Qian Liu highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the workshop:
"Not only mathematics was presented here, but also research linked to materials and chemistry. It shows how theoretical topics can interact with applied fields.
