Seyed Matin Malakouti

Matin is a Persian researcher specializing in machine learning applications in biomedical engineering and renewable energy forecasting. Matin holds an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Control Engineering) from the University of Tabriz, where selected coursework included Nonlinear Control, Fuzzy Systems, Graph Theory, Optimization, Identification Systems, Reinforcement Learning, and a foundational introduction to Stochastic Theory. Matin also holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology.

In recognition of Matin's strong academic and research record, in 2023 Matin was admitted to Ph.D. programs through Iran's Exceptional Talents (Talented Students) admission pathway at several leading Iranian universities, including Shahid Beheshti University, Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Isfahan University of Technology, and K. N. Toosi University of Technology. During this admission process, Shahid Beheshti University explicitly assured Matin that, upon completion of his doctoral studies, they would guarantee hiring Matin as an Assistant Professor. Despite this attractive offer, Matin ultimately chose Amirkabir University of Technology and pursued doctoral studies there from 2023 until before coming to Sweden. During this period, Matin's doctoral-level coursework included Advanced Learning, Advanced Machine Learning, Medical Signal Processing, Data Mining, and Model Predictive Control, further strengthening Matin's interdisciplinary background in artificial intelligence, control engineering, and biomedical signal analysis.

Throughout Matin's academic career, Matin also received and pursued several international doctoral opportunities. Matin was admitted to a Ph.D. program in Croatia and relocated there to begin doctoral studies. However, after spending less than three months in the country, Matin found that the doctoral salary was insufficient relative to the high cost of living and would not provide sustainable financial conditions for pursuing long-term academic and research goals. Matin therefore made the considered decision to return to Iran and focus on pursuing doctoral and research opportunities in more advanced European research environments with stronger academic infrastructure and more sustainable funding conditions.

Matin's name appears as Malakouti, Seyed Matin in the August 2025 data update of the Stanford–Elsevier dataset Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators, commonly referred to as the "World's Top 2% Scientists" database, in the single recent year section based on 2024 citation data (DOI: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.8).

In addition to research activities, Matin has contributed extensively to the international scholarly community through peer review, having reviewed hundreds of manuscripts for journals published by major academic publishers including Springer Nature, Elsevier, and SAGE, particularly in the fields of energy, biomedical engineering, machine learning, and related interdisciplinary areas.
